Australian accessories giant Mimco have collaborated with jewellery company Made to produce a limited edition range of African-inspired jewellery. Pioneers of fair trade, Made are helping to break the cycle of poverty in disadvantaged communities across East Africa. Made work with influential designers to design pieces that are then sourced and created within various developing East African communities.
Celebrities such as Alex Chung and Laura Bailey have lent their creative talents to this great cause.
The people of East African communities are trained with the skills to produce the designs, and are provided with fair wages and support during the production process. The brain child of Cristina Cisilino and Gerson Barnett, Made is an accesories brand with a conscience.
Fashion is increasingly being used to help developing countries build their communities in the hope that they will eventually become self-sustaining.
